Flown

Firstly, I wrote this over a week ago and tried to post it but due to the Typhoon seems there was no internet, now I’m back in Hong Kong and posting it after my trip. Sadly this was over the time the typhoon was coming towards the Philippines
Well I’m sitting in Manila, Philippines, today, a few days off so hoped on a plane took an hour and fifty minutes later I’m here, a brisk 20 minute taxi ride through downtown and I’m sitting in the hotel, the InterContinental in Makati district, I should mention at this point that Manila taxi drivers are not the safest drivers so buckle up for a white knuckle ride.

So this leads me to the question what do they drink in Philippines? Mmmm…………… the locals drink Fundador, Emperador GSM Blue Gin and and and a lot of other cheap booze, I will review some one day and give some back ground on them.
So what am I drinking while I’m here? I sprung open my suit case and I have a bottle of Springbank 12 year old, cask strength bottled at 55.3% ABV. This is a nice wee dram; the climate at the moment in Manila is warm, not as warm as July and August and not as humid. I took this dram with me as I tried it during a tasting of Springbanks 2 months ago at The Canny Man in Hong Kong and it was a winner, also it would be a dram shame not to bring it along. Ok that’s the last shit joke.
What…
Springbank 12 Year Old “Cask Strength”
Location…
SPEYSIDE
Where…
Well as I mentioned I’m in Manila, Philippines.
Why…
I tasted it at a Whisky tasting recently and was wetting my pants to open it, so that’s where we are. Dram in hand and dry pants.
Tasting…
Nose: Sweet with hints of toffee and fudge. Light Seville oranges, as it sits in the glass sherry, vanilla and chocolate comes up. Toffee pudding in a glass.
Palate: Initially the sherry influence is apparent, followed by vanilla and oak flavours. A lovely smooth and creamy feeling on the palate.
Finish: Dry, smooth and complex with a hint of smoke that lingers in the finish.

Comments: Chunky fat legs in the glass, add a few drops of water as this is cask strength. This one I have to say is magic, without a doubt one of my best tasted Malts to date, a real pleasure to drink it, this comes from an amazing distillery.
Get it…
In Hong Long it’s available at:
