Whisky of the Year

Another year and many awards for single malts, so this year the first one we see is from Jim Murray, a canny scots man, who is well versed and respected in the Whisky Industry, so according to the Scotsman Murray who is also the author of the Whisky Bible, a well respected guide to the best and worst Whisky out there, his annual guide ranks more than 4,500 whiskies. Some feat for any man to sample so many.
So his winner for 2013 is………… drum role please, it is a Malt in the mans own words describing the Scottish distillery's single malt as "borderline perfection."
Wow what a compliment, so Jim Murrays whisky of the year is the "Glenmorangie Ealanta”. So why Jim chose it? Well he says its because it went out and did something different. Bravo to Morangie.
Murray is quoted as saying………
"Not only did it blow one away with its deftness, beauty and elegance, but it gave an aroma and taste profile completely new to me in over 30 years of tasting whisky," Murray scored Ealanta 97.5 out of a possible 100, so earning the title of "World Whisky of the Year" in the 2014 edition of the Whisky Bible.
Introduced at the beginning of 2013 as the fourth annual release in Glenmorangie’s private edition range, and limited to 3,433 cases released, the Ealanta was born out of an experiment conducted at the distillery almost two decades ago.
Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s director of distilling and whisky creation, told the Scotsman the single malt was put in virgin white oak casks in before being hidden from prying eyes.
"I hid the barrels in a corner of a warehouse 19 years ago so the whisky didn’t get used in a blend. I first opened [them] three or four years ago and realized I’d created something different," he said.
So that’s it wait for the onslaught of Whiskies of the year from over the web as there will be hundreds…… im waitin for Ralfy to let us know what he thought of the years releases and whats his.
Later I will review morangies Ealanta as I just picked up a few bottles.
